Apart from destructive antibodies, there is some evidence to suggest that Addison's disease can be caused by antibodies that block the effect of ACTH. Such antibodies may be directed against the ACTH receptor. If adrenal antibodies are not found by sensitive methodology, then evidence of tuberculosis should be sought.
